Welcome to Zest - a place for youth, by youth.

Quick update: you told us and we listened...

We have had feedback that the original format of Zest being divided into seven topic categories didn't give you the quickest access to the latest posts. With this in mind we have now combined all categories into one forum, with the latest posts at the top. We hope Zest is now easier to navigate.

We are always looking at ways to improve and make this space one of your favourites, so we will continue to look at other ways to keep Zest relevant and as interactive as it can be. Keep those suggestions coming - any feedback you have is much appreciated as we are making these changes with you in mind.

Hi, I'm Josh, I'm 24, from Sydney, and have been legally blind from birth--my mum unknowingly came into contact with someone with rubella while she was pregnant with me and I was born with cataracts in both eyes. They were removed (although my first doctor said nothing was wrong) as my parents knew something wasn't quite right, and I was rushed into surgery before losing all my sight, so I only lost 90% instead, though I try to be grateful for the 10% I do have, it might not seem like a lot, but its a lot to me. I've struggled with isolation and would love to make some new friends who are in the same boat (most of the VI friends I've made are older, and I'd love to find people here, and think Zest is such an awesome idea). I have a pretty wide range of interest and hobbies, including football, gaming, writing, wrestling, Disney, and much else. I'm also someone who is passionate about helping others--I've struggled with depression but it makes me happier when I can help others feel better about themselves and their lives.

Hi, my name is Hailey. I’m 31 & aquired a vision impairment in my early 20’s. This life experience has shaped my professional endeavours & I went on to further study to become a specialist vision teacher.
I love what I do, the students I work with and all things ‘vision’. I volunteer in the sector of disability, specifically Deafblindness and am an avid advocate for change & understanding in the world of disability, services & I hope to one day play a part in the influence of positive change in government policy structure & development for people & families living with disability.

I like to travel, keep fit, snowboard, go to the theatre, listen to music, attend country music concerts & festivals, spend time with family and friends and imerse myself in opportunities to experience and learn new things.
